We were recently asked to make and fit a bespoke pair of gates at the end of a drive at a lovely house in Brighouse.
The house is located at the top of a hill, and has an amazing view. The problem is that there’s a public footpath at the end of the drive, so it’s not the most private of spots. Hence…the gates!
The clients talked to us about what they wanted, and we provided a few options for them to think about. During a visit we also measured up so that we could offer an accurate quote.
Together with the customer, we decided on a substantial gate constructed from double-sided pailing fence which would look great and would be perfectly in keeping with the surroundings. As it can be windy on the hill, the fence needed to be slatted…but also substantial enough to provide much-needed strength and privacy.
This was a two-day job in total, as the gates were completely bespoke. When we started working on the fence posts, we decided to make sure they were larger and more reinforced to make sure that these gates will take the buffeting they will get from such an exposed position. So we dug deeper into the ground to accommodate them.
We also added a set of wheels to one side, to take the weight and help opening and closing.
We were working around a young family…often literally! One of our client pledges is that ‘we will respect the surroundings that we are working in’, so we were on particularly good behaviour and were careful to remember the needs of the whole family.
We came back to the site a week later. Wood is a natural material, and as such is liable to shrinkage over time and with climatic changes. However, there was no re-work to do on this occasion.
So, another delighted customer and another great job for our portfolio of work. Our customers have had complements from their neighbours too, so we think that our perfectionist approach has been appreciated.
