Roomzzz Apparthotel in Manchester Corn Exchange

Background

This project centred on renovating The Sovereign Suite in the Roomzzz hotel in Manchester’s Corn Exchange.

The owners of the hotel, Park Lane Group, wanted the rule book to be ripped up for this suite, the most prestigious in the whole hotel. They wanted an exquisite finish so that they could charge a premium price for visitors. Fatfish Design were the primary contractor; they came up with the design, our job was to help build it!

The Challenge

The Hotel was a busy, working environment. We had to make sure we were not getting in the way of the hotel staff as they went around their daily routines…but also working discretely enough to ensure the guests were not bothered by our work. As joinery isn’t exactly the quietest of jobs, this was no mean feat!

Since the Sovereign Suite was located at the far end of the hotel, we had to make lots of journeys through corridors with materials and equipment. This required a totally professional and considerate approach for the whole of the work, and is the reason why one of our customer pledges is:
“We will respect the surroundings that we are working in.”

The Project

The suite comprised a living area, lounge, kitchen and bedroom, all of which needed a top-quality finish. Our role was to bring the design to life. This meant:

  • Removing walls
  • Added some pattress (reinforcement) to existing walls to ensure they could be load-bearing
  • Building a bespoke wardrobe, desk, dining table and bookcase
  • Adding the finishing touches: New toilet roll holder, taps, door handles etc

We loved doing this job. There were problems to solve, a high level of finish to work towards and a real sense of achievement on completion. It was a great combination of bespoke detail and large joinery work.

As we are perfectionists, we made a special trip to the hotel afterwards to ensure that any snags were addressed, but discovered that the hotel were delighted with the work.

It was right, first time.

They also reported that they hadn’t received a single complaint about the noise or disruption for the whole of the build which they were amazed about. So their reputation as a premium hotel was supported by our work. As a result of this, we are still working for the Park Lane Group.

When asked about Daga Projects’ involvement, Stephanie Lagan-Collins, owner of FatFish said: “Daga were brilliant! Their heart and soul were in the project. They understood the challenge at hand and delivered a great result. We wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.”
